Johnson & Johnson Consumer faces class action suit over Neutrogena Skin360

THE WHAT? Johnson & Johnson is facing yet another class action suit as a case filed in the US District Court for New Jersey charged the manufacturer of Aveeno with violating the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

THE DETAILS The statute in question prohibits companies from collecting, capturing, purchasing or otherwise obtaining biometric identifiers or information without informing the individual in writing. The complainant alleges that the respondent’s Neutrogena Skin360 technology breaches this requirement as it actively collects, captures, uses and stores detailed biometric information, including scans of the facial geometry of the user and this data is tied to the individuals’ names, birthdates and other personal information.

THE WHY? Johnson & Johnson stands accused of failing to inform users in writing that their biometric information was being generated, collected or stored in contravention of the legislation in place.
