Walmart, Unilever and Natura &Co to support Earthshot Prize finalists

THE WHAT? Walmart, Unilever and Natura &Co are among the 14 companies that have signed up to support the finalists of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize.

THE DETAILS The companies, which together form the Global Alliance, will work with the 15 finalists, supplying resources and support in the fields of manufacturing, supply chains, retail, regulatory advice, technology, strategy and government relations.

The first five winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held in London in October. Each will receive a £1 million grant to further implement their solutions to sustainability challenges.

THE WHY? The Duke of Cambridge was inspired by Kennedy’s Moonshot program and launched the prize last year as part of a 10-year mission to save the planet. Indra Nooyi, The Earthshot Prize Council member and former Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, explained in a statement posted on the prize’s website, “Sustainability is fundamental to how business is conducted. Collaboration with the private sector is critical in order to propel sustainable environmental innovation. These companies can accelerate our progress toward a more sustainable future with their global reach and impact. By leveraging their expertise, size and scale, they can supercharge the adoption of solutions created by our Earthshot Prize Finalists and Winners — solutions that will ultimately improve lives around the world and restore our planet.”
