THE WHAT? Mattel’s iconic Barbie brand has been praised for its latest launch of inclusive toy dolls. According to a report published by Stylist, the brand is ushering a diverse range of characters to its Fashionistas collection this year.
THE DETAILS New additions to the fold include a doll with vitiligo, a bald Barbie and one with a prosthetic limb. There are now more than 170 dolls available in the range, spanning different body types, skin tone and hair colour.
THE WHY? Diversity sells – Barbie revealed that its bestselling doll of 2019 was a curvy model with an Afro hairstyle, while in the UK, the top two dolls by sales both have wheelchairs.
